The BiH and Serbian Foreign Ministers, Zlatko Lagumdzija and Ivan Mrkic, respectively, today in Sarajevo signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in European integration. Lagumdzija said after the signing that this document is a “tool” for improving bilateral cooperation “so that BiH might the more quickly follow its neighbours on the road to the EU.”

“Everything we have been doing in the past six months, and what we intend to do in the next six months, resolves the stagnation in the resolution of our bilateral issues. Property issues, state borders and the like are issues to which simple solutions can hardly be found, but we will work on it,” Lagumdzija said at a press conference.

He said that after the signing of the Memorandum very concrete and precise work by the joint teams will follow, which should prepare both countries for Croatia’s accession to the EU.

“Next year we expect the BiH Council of Ministers and the Serbian Cabinet to hold joint meetings once every six months in order to resolve issues accumulated during the year,” Lagumdzija said.

Mrkic said that BiH is Serbia’s closest neighbour and that there are foundations to develop friendly relations.

He said that BiH and Serbia have a stable present and strive for a joint future, and that the two states must “train” themselves in a timely fashion for membership in the EU.

Lagumdzija and Mrkic announced that the Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers, Vjekoslav Bevanda, will visit Belgrade at the beginning of next year.
